Zion Baptist Church is a church where people of all cultures and ages are welcomed to worship, supported in being transformed by God's word and encouraged to becomefollowers of Christ, where we embrace those within our own walls and reach out to the global community, and where love is put into action. Although Our congregation is multicultural and diverse; the majority is African American. Our leadership consists of a board of Deacons, a board of Trustees and Associate Reverends and Minister. We currently have a number of ministries including Adult and Youth Sunday School, Zion Youth and Young Adults, Women of Zion, Men of Zion, and Adult Choir.
Zion is seeking a dedicated, passionate, and experienced part-time Senior Pastor to join our team and lead our congregation in spiritual growth and service. Part time is a
minimum of 20 hours a week which includes office hours and visitation. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a
deep commitment to the ministry.
Senior Pastor Responsibilities:
- Provide spiritual leadership and pastoral care to the congregation, fostering a culture of faith, love, and service.
- Develop and deliver engaging, biblically based weekly sermons during worship services, as well as on special occasions and events.
- Plan and lead services, collaborating with the worship team, and ensuring that services are meaningful and spiritually enriching.
- Provide pastoral care for members of the congregation, including visiting the sick, counseling those in need, and offering support during times of crisis.
- Facilitate and encourage spiritual growth and discipleship through the development and implementation of small group ministries, Bible studies, and other educational programs.
- Work with church leadership and staff to establish and execute a vision and strategic plan for the church’s growth and leadership development.
- Engage and build relationships within the local community, participating in outreach and mission activities, and collaborating with other organizations to address community needs.
- Mentor, supervise, and support church staff and volunteers, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment with robust leadership development.
- Perform other pastoral duties, including weddings, funerals, baptisms, and dedications, as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A deep commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master of Divinity is a plus.
- Ordination and licensing are required which includes good standing within a recognized Christian denomination.
- A minimum of 5 years of pastoral experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of effective leadership, ministry development, and community outreach.
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, with the ability to listen actively, provide clear instructions, and effectively engage with a diverse congregation and adapt to various ministry contexts.
- Strong writing skills, including experience preparing reports, and developing clear, concise written communications.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a passion for empowering others, fostering inclusive and respectful relationships including the ability to establish a collaborative team-oriented environment.
- A deep understanding of and commitment to the Bible, Christian theology, and the specific denomination tradition.
- Experience in facilitating meetings, discussions and collaborative projects, including conflict resolution and team building.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, organize events, and work effectively under pressure.
- A heart for pastoral care and the ability to provide compassionate and empathetic support to congregation members in times of need.
